The Beatles’ Thank You Girl was first released in 1963 as the B-side of the single “From Me to You”. In 1964 it hit number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. John Lennon said, “This was just a silly song we knocked off.” The song was recorded in thirteen takes. John Lennon added the harmonica without the other Beatles eight days later.
The song was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney as a tribute to the band’s many female fans and was originally titled “Thank You, Little Girl”. McCartney said, “We knew that if we wrote a song called, ‘Thank You Girl’, that a lot of the girls who wrote us fan letters would take it as a genuine ‘thank you’. So a lot of our songs were directly addressed to the fans.” Sidenote: They were eventually so overwhelmed with fans that they stopped touring and became a studio-only band.
The Beatles – Thank You Girl Lyrics
Ah, ah, you’ve been good to me
You made me glad when I was blue
And eternally I’ll always be in love with you
And all I gotta do is thank you girl
Thank you girlI could tell the world
A thing or two about our love
I know little girl only a fool would doubt our love
And all I gotta do is thank you girl
Thank you girlThank you girl for loving me
The way that you do (way that you do)
That’s the kind of love that is too good to be true
And all I gotta do is thank you girl
Thank you girlAh, ah, you’ve been good to me
You made me glad when I was blue
And eternally I’ll always be in love with you
And all I gotta do is thank you girl
Thank you girl
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
